Do you remember that awesome performance at the end of the homecoming pep rally? That was William Penn’s newly formed Dance Club! It began in October and hasn’t stopped since! Nicole Liquori, a tenth grade math teacher in our school, was instrumental in starting the club.
“I didn’t have time to do it last year because I was too busy preparing for my wedding, but a student was insistent about starting the club back up this year,” Liquori said. “So why not do so, if this is what I love?”
You might not think a math teacher would know much about dancing, right? But little do you know that Liquori has been dancing since she was two years old. She even works part-time as an instructor at a dance studio in Harrisburg, where she lives with her newlywed husband. She volunteers her time after school to work with kids interested in learning dance. After dance practice, she still has the time and energy to continue on and help others at a dance studio, in which she dances as well. She said that dancing is a passion of hers, and combining passion with profession seems the perfect fit.
“Every time I get the chance to teach someone about dancing, it is memorable to me,” Liquori said.
Many of the students who are currently in this club were skeptical about joining, but after their first performance, they appear to be poised for more.
“I didn’t regret it. I would’ve regretted quitting and not going through with this!” said junior Paloma Mondragon, referring to the recent performance in front of the student body and staff.
This dance club gives you the opportunity to express yourself through music and set yourself free. Dancing promotes poise, discipline, coordination, cardio capacity, and confidence. Currently, about 15 students are participating, but Liquori is open to more. The club doesn’t have an exact meeting location or regular day, but they typically get together after school.
Liquori and the club plan on having more performances throughout the school year like half-time at basketball games, and more pep-rallies. If you are interested in joining York High’s Dance club, please contact Liquori who is located in room D304 or junior Asyria Sweeney.
